Robert Brooke Zevin
President
Robert has been a leader in socially responsible investing since his pioneering work in SRI forty years ago. He has been president of Robert Brooke Zevin Associates as well as holding various senior positions at the former United States Trust Company of Boston. In the 1960’s Robert was also a pioneer in the use of Modern Portfolio Theory and computer technology applied to investment decision making.
Robert played a leading role in the anti-apartheid divestment campaign in the 1980’s, testifying before dozens of city councils, state legislators and college and university boards as well as writing the major studies used by the state of Connecticut and Michigan to justify divestment and serving as the only expert witness in the successful defense of the city of Baltimore’s divestment decision. He helped found and served as chair of Shared Interest, an organization that supports the informal economy in post-apartheid South Africa.
Robert is an economic historian and has taught at Berkeley, Columbia, Harvard, Boston University, U.Mass Amherst and Simmons College. He has also written articles for the Atlantic Monthly, Boston Globe, New York Times, Liberation and Working Papers and invited chapters in a number of books. His two published books are The Growth of Manufacturing in Early Nineteenth Century New England (1975), and A Greater Good: Potentials for an Intelligent Economy (1983).
Robert earned a B.A. in mathematics from Antioch College (1959), an M.S. in mathematics from Ohio State University (1960), an M.S. in economics from Harvard (1962) and subsequently a Ph.D. in economics from Harvard.
Benjamin C. Lovell
Vice President and Portfolio Manager
Ben joined RBZA in 2007. He possesses a wealth of experience managing socially responsible portfolios since 1985. Most notably he founded Clean Yield Asset Management with two partners where he served as the firm’s President from 1985 until 1996. Subsequently he was a vice president and portfolio manager with F.L. Putnam Investment Management from 1996 until 2002. Prior to entering the investment field he held accounting positions with PriceWaterhouseCoopers and Tyco International. He received his BS in Environmental Conservation in 1977 and an M.B.A. from the University of New Hampshire in 1983. Ben is a member of the Chartered Financial Analysts Institute, the Boston Security Analysts Society (BSAS), and the Social Investment Forum. Ben is a Chartered Financial Analyst. He currently serves on the board of the Jessie Smith Noyes Foundation and has served as an officer or on boards or committees associated with the Maine Initiatives Fund, the Seacoast Anti-Pollution League, York Hospital, Bow Street Youth Symphony, Maine Businesses for Social Responsibility, the Portsmouth Music Hall, the Exeter Area VNA, and the York Rotary Club.
Amber Fairbanks
Senior Securities Analyst
Amber joined Robert Brooke Zevin Associates in 2007. Previously she worked as an analyst for J.L. Kaplan Associates, a division of Evergreen Investments, and for Delta Partners, L.L.C., a Boston based hedge fund. She received her M.B.A. from Boston College and a BS in Environmental Science, Cum Laude from University of Massachusetts. Amber is a member of the Chartered Financial Analysts Institute, and the Boston Security Analysts Society (BSAS).
Philip Hergel
Senior Quantitative Analyst
Philip and his family relocated to the Boston area in 2008 to join Robert Brooke Zevin Associates. Previously, Philip spent over ten years with BCA Research, one of the world's leading independent investment research and advisory firms. Philip currently provides the quantitative modeling inputs which help to drive the asset, country and sector allocations within our portfolios. Philip holds an M.A. in Economics and an undergraduate degree in Statistics from Concordia University in Montreal.
Jennifer Kelley
Operations Manager
Jennifer Kelley has been managing the operations for Robert Brooke Zevin Associates since 2000. She received her M.B.A. from Salem State College, and a BA in Computer Sciences from St. Anselm College. She is actively involved with her two boys and volunteers for many sports programs in her home town.
Cristina Carbunaru
Investment Assistant
Cristina is a recent graduate of BostonUniversity and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. Prior to joining the staff at Robert Brooke Zevin Associates, she worked as an intern on the corporate bonds Desk at NewEdge in NYC and also worked summers with the Student Conservation Association. Cristina's interests lie in US environmental policy and she strives to be an environmentally conscious member of the community.
